This month please welcome Gene Collins! Gene Collins is a community icon, leader, and political advisor. Mr. Collins served as the NCAAP President of Las Vegas Chapter from 1999-2003 and the National Action Network (NAN) of the Las Vegas Chapter from 2001-2011. Gene sought public office in 1982-1986 and became the State Assemblyman of Nevada 6th District. He was instrumental in introducing the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday bill during his legislative term. Thirty years later he was honored as the NCAAP Grand Marshal to celebrate Dr. King's legacy.

Originally operating out of a storefront on Brush Street, the West Charleston Library opened in its current location in January 1993. This 38,900-square-foot building is located on the northeast corner of the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston Campus. This location, which features a Digital Memory Preservation Lab, serves its student population and residents with over 67,000 volumes and features a 276-seat lecture hall.
