Spring Valley Library

Sensory Storytime is a fun, less structured storytime designed for children ages 2-10 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other sensory sensitivities. Registration required.

The storytime involves books, songs, movement and some sign language. It differs from our standard storytimes in the following ways:

The use of picture guides with activities.
The availability of fidget toys to enhance focus and calm.
One to two reciprocal activities to foster social interaction.
A flexible approach which allows sensory seekers to roam.
Room opens 10 minutes before storytime starts to allow the children to explore the environment and become acclimated to the room.
Low lighting & soft music for songs.

Each week we focus on different topics (subject to change). The current schedule is:

October 6 - ABC's and Numbers
November 3 - Shapes
December 1 - Telling Time

Limited to 5 families per session (registration required). Free and open to the public.
