What is an Alebrije?
Alebrijes are brightly colored cartonería or papier-mâché sculptures made for Dia de Muertos and other Mexican celebrations. Alebrijes can take many shapes but are often based on chimera-like animals.
We invite you to make your own Alebrije and help us prepare for this year’s Dia de Muertos in two sessions.
In the first session on October 5 you will sculpt your alebrije and let it dry. In the second session on October 12 you will paint and decorate it.
All materials will be supplied but space is limited, so register today to reserve your place!
¿Qué es un alebrije?
Los alebrijes son esculturas de cartón o papel maché de colores brillantes hechas para el Día de Muertos y otras celebraciones mexicanas. Los alebrijes pueden tomar muchas formas, pero a menudo se basan en animales parecidos a quimeras.
Te invitamos a hacer tu propio Alebrije y ayudarnos a preparar nuestro Día de Muertos de este año en dos sesiones.
En la primera sesión, el día 5 de octubre, esculpirás tu alebrije y lo dejarás secar. En la segunda sesión, el 12 de octubre, lo pintarás y decorarás.

This 41,015-square-foot library was completed in 2019 and is in the heart of the Latino community serving its residents with over 50,000 volumes. As the newest addition to the Library District, this location emphasizes many Spanish and bilingual materials, resources, and programs. It offers career services through the EmployNV Career Hub, where customers have access to computer labs, skills training, and employment programs, as well as the Built from Scratch Tech Lab, which provides access to music production and video editing workstations, DJ equipment, and a sound booth.
