Learn the basics of sewing and get certified to join future sewing events at the library! This hands-on class covers machine use, threading, and basic stitches. Registration required. For ages 15+.
Ready to start your sewing journey? This hands-on class is designed for beginners and will teach you how to safely use a sewing machine. You’ll become familiar with the essential parts and functions of the machine, how to thread it properly, and learn basic stitches to get you started on a variety of sewing projects.
Important: To participate in any future sewing events at the library, you must complete this certification class. Upon successful completion, you'll receive a certification that grants you access to our sewing events.
While this class is free and open to the public, online registration is required to secure your spot. Please register online in advance to save your seat as seating is limited.
Please note, this class involves the use of cutting tools and sharp objects, such as sewing needles, so safety is emphasized throughout. By the end of the class, you’ll feel confident in using a sewing machine and ready to take on your own sewing projects.

Originally operating out of a storefront on Brush Street, the West Charleston Library opened in its current location in January 1993. This 38,900-square-foot building is located on the northeast corner of the College of Southern Nevada’s Charleston Campus. This location, which features a Digital Memory Preservation Lab, serves its student population and residents with over 67,000 volumes and features a 276-seat lecture hall.
