Senior Peer Counseling is a nationwide program designed by the Center for Healthy Aging to meet the emotional needs of adults 50 years and older.
Trained volunteer seniors provide confidential counseling to seniors facing normal challenges and concerns of aging. Senior Peer Counselors help the senior clients to work through the feelings and concerns affecting their lives such as:
* sadness and loneliness * stresses
* health issues * relationship concerns
* retirement and lifestyle changes
* caregiver for aging parents
* loss and bereavement
The Senior Peer Counselors assist their senior clients by: listening to their feelings, recognizing and affirming their strengths, considering alternatives, providing resources, teaching new coping skills and redirecting their lives towards greater meaning and purpose. The program is supervised by a Licensed Social Worker.
