Multipurpose RoomThe kickoff for a four part reading, viewing and discussion series on the Declaration of Independence created by the National Constitution Center and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation.
Join us for a deep study of the Declaration of Independence this Semiquincentennial!
During this first part, we will listen to the Declaration of Independence read aloud in public as it was for the first time on July 8th 1776. We will view a few short videos introducing the subject. Then we will hand out the discussion materials to be read for and discussed at the three remaining sessions.
Remaining Sessions include:
July 22nd Meeting 1: 1776 - A look at the creation of the Declaration of Independence and the contributions of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Dickinson. We will read and discuss the draft and final versions of the Declaration of Independence, as well as additional material about the creation of the Declaration.
July 29th Meeting 2: 1826- Explore the letters of Jefferson and Adams as they look back on their 50 years since the Declaration and discuss its meaning given the progress of the country. Both men died on the same day - July 4, 1826
August 5th Meeting 3: Legacies - A look at the legacy of the Declaration of Independence up to the modern age through the eyes of Frederick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Gerald Ford (President during the Bicentennial).

The Enterprise Library, built in 1996, is a 26,300-square-foot building located just south of the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Serving customers from the Enterprise Township and the southwestern part of Las Vegas, this library houses a collection of over 70,000 volumes and features the Cox Teen STEAM Lab, which offers free access to technology equipment and educational programming for local youth.
