Professor Tyler D. Parry explores the dynamic origins of Black History Month
In this lecture, Professor Tyler D. Parry explores the dynamic origins of "Black History Month," including the people, organizations, and events responsible for its expansion and recognition since it was first established as "Negro History Week" in 1926. Dr. Parry first analyzes how Black History Month has been celebrated and honored throughout US history, and then investigates how this month has impacted the local Las Vegas community. In the last section of the lecture, he explores how its influence has gone beyond the United States and inspired other countries to adopt similar measures in commemorating the experiences of Black people.
