Families with children of all ages are welcome to join Dreamsickle Kids Foundation to learn about Sickle Cell Disease and read books written by children affected by the disease.
The Sickle Cell Disease Health Literacy Initiative by Dreamsickle Kids, in collaboration with the Library District, will run from June to September. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a genetic blood disorder affecting red blood cells. This initiative will be held at the East las Vegas and West Las Vegas Libraries and features children's books in English and Spanish written by SCD patients and advocates. Open to all ages, the program includes snacks, prizes, and fun activities. This program is free and open to the public; a library card is not required to attend. The West Las Vegas Library opened to the Historic Westside Neighborhood on D Street in 1973 before moving to its current location on Lake Mead Boulevard in January 1989. In addition to offering a 298-seat theater, the African American Special Collection, and a state-of-the-art robot lab, this 38,900-square-foot library houses 27,700 volumes and has become a prominent part of the community.
