Explore the rich natural environment of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area with a story book walk for all ages.
Follow the pages of Kate Messner's enchanting book, "Over and Under the Canyon" illustrated by Christopher Silas Neal and see if you too might spot some flora and fauna in the wild. Grab a nature journal to discover the complex ecosystem thriving in our own backyard.
This program is hosted by Friends of Red Rock Canyon and will take place by the Visitor Center, on the Moenkopi Loop for 1/2 a mile out and back. Tables near the entrance of the trail will provide information for the walk as well as a nature journaling activity.
Instructions for Entering the Park:
The first 30 families (cars) to enter through the Fee Booth at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area will be able to enter for free. Please let the attendant know you are here for the Library Districts Story Book Walk event.
Participating cars will need to enter through the FIRST booth on the left hand side. Please know that if you are not one of the first 30 cars to enter, there is a $20 entrance fee. You can also use your Red Rock Canyon pass if you have one and save a free pass for another family.

Full Trail Distance: 2 miles; Average time: 1.5hrs; Difficulty: EASY
Triassic fossils and various desert flora can be seen on this open country trail which starts at the visitor center and traverses a prominent limestone ridge. In addition to panoramic views of the Wilson Cliffs, there are connecting trails to the Calico Hills area (2 mile loop, easy).
